In the early nineties, a core group of producers from Iloilo realized that the products of Panay and neighboring Guimaras were lagging behind those of other provinces in terms of competitiveness, promotion and development. Organizing themselves under the auspices of the Department of Trade and Industry Region VI, the producers initially called themselves the Panay and Guimaras Producers Association (PAGPA), which was incorporated March 1993 and is now known as the ILONGGO PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION or IPA. Challenged to manage the DTI Promotion Center, the IPA established the IPA Trade Center in may of 1993 to showcase its members' quality products native delicacies, gift items, textiles, garments, furniture and housewares manufactured in Panay and Guimaras Islands. In 1996 the IPA renovated the Trade Center which led to improvements that have increased its viability and profitability for IPA members. |
